Full of amazing orchestral colors, riveting arias and beloved chorales, this performance is a wonderful way to celebrate the season. Soloists include soprano Ilana Davidson, mezzo-soprano Brenda Patterson, Evangelist William Ferguson, tenor Scott Murphree, and bass Mark Risinger. Don't miss the free pre-concert lecture by eminent Bach scholar Christoph Wolff at 2 pm on Sunday, December 20 at Park Avenue Christian Church, in the Idelman Parlor. Cantatas in Context: Program II ALL-BACH NEW YEAR'S CELEBRATION Thursday, December 31 at 8 pm Celebrate the start of a New Year with exhilarating masterworks by J.S. Bach: Concerto for Oboe and Violin in C minor, BWV 1060; "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen" ("Praise God in all lands"), BWV 51, with soprano Ilana Davidson; Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major, BWV 1050; and Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068. Cantatas in Context: Program III ECSTATIC BACH Sunday, January 31 at 3 pm Erforsche mich, Gott, und erfahre mein Herz ("Search me, O God, and know my heart"), BWV 136 Ich liebe den Höchsten von ganzem Gemüte ("I love the Almighty with all my heart"), BWV 174 Mass in F major, BWV 233 In the third and final concert of the 2009-2010 season, Mary Greer leads the New York Baroque Soloists and members of the St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble in a program of three of Bach's most uplifting vocal works.
